I am a nature lover, a natural born foodie, and your expert nutrition guide on the road to health and happiness.
Through my education and research experiences I have developed a deep appreciation for the environment. I believe that among all the decisions we make each day, the foods we select provide an opportunity to:
- Support and grow a sustainable and ethical food system
- Grow and support our local economy
- Promote individual health and wellness
- Prevent and manage chronic disease
I believe in developing a lifestyle that supports disease prevention through nutrition and physical activity.
Making small changes each day can bring abundant rewards, and a little planning can go a long way.
MY NUTRITION JOURNEY
I am so happy to serve my hometown community as a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist. My journey to this place has been a winding road, but I am very grateful for the life and career experiences that have brought me here.
When I originally started my college career I wanted to pursue a degree in science, but I was uncertain of exactly where that would take me. I ended up having the amazing opportunity to conduct research among our great barrier islands here in Georgia, studying a nesting population of loggerhead sea turtles. I also worked onboard a research vessel along the southeastern United States coast as a part of a federally funded sea turtle abundance survey. After these life-changing adventures I still wasn’t sure exactly what I wanted to do. So, I did what most college graduates do, I got a job.
After settling in to a collegiate teaching career as a biology professor my focus shifted to nutrition. I became more aware of the impact of my food choices on my personal health and the environment. As I began to shift my behaviors to develop a more thoughtful approach to food, I began to seek information regarding healthy eating and living. I soon realized there was so much information out there, a lot of misinformation in fact. So, I decided to explore the field of nutrition and dietetics and soon found a career path that I was excited about, that would allow me to help people, something I was born to do.
I love all things nutrition, but I am especially interested in working with
- People that want to invest in their health to prevent the long-term effects of chronic disease
- Women that want to maintain their health before, during, and after pregnancy
- Families that want to get back to basics and prepare healthy meals at home
- Individuals that want to change their lifestyle to produce lasting results that positively impact their health and the environment
